Hi, I’m Jelle — the heart and hands behind Word & Worth.
I’m a writer, editor, and bookkeeper with a background in education and operations, and a steady hand for words and numbers alike. Over the years, I’ve taught, translated, edited, balanced books, trained teams, and built systems — and through all of it, I’ve cared deeply about clarity, consistency, and care.
Word & Worth grew from a desire to do things differently — to offer dependable, personalized support to people doing meaningful work. Whether I’m refining a grant application or closing out the books, I bring calm, structure, and intention to every piece of the process.
I work with small nonprofits, unions, and grassroots teams — the kind of people juggling big-picture goals and day-to-day demands, often with limited time and too few hands.
You might be:
A union team needing consistent financial reports and someone to keep the books clean and on time
A nonprofit preparing for funding applications or audits
A solo founder who just wants the monthly bank rec to stop feeling like a mystery
If you're doing work that matters and need support that’s practical, thoughtful, and steady — I’m here for that.
I work quietly and consistently in the background, helping you keep things clear, compliant, and calm. That means:
Documents that make sense to the people reading them
Books that reconcile, reports that reflect reality
Reliable, not rigid. I aim for clarity, consistency, and calm collaboration
I know what it’s like to be the person trying to do it all, and how easy it is for the numbers and admin to fall behind. My job is to help you feel more grounded and less behind, so you can focus on the work that lights you up.
Word & Worth came to life after years of working behind the scenes for a nonprofit client: first through a third party, then more directly. I saw how fragile trust can be when communication breaks down, and how much smoother things run when someone genuinely cares. That’s the kind of support I offer: practical, relational, and rooted in trust.
I spent nearly a decade teaching and leading programs in China and Canada, with a focus on communication, critical thinking, and global business skills. I’ve edited both curriculum and books in translation, supported new educators, and worked with teams navigating change and growth.
I hold a Master’s in Linguistics, a CELTA certificate, and QuickBooks Online Advisor certification. I believe in lifelong learning, plain language, and finding the most sensible system for the people using it.
I live and work on the West Coast, and I started Word & Worth to serve small, values-based organizations that deserve solid support — and a little more breathing room.
